 Dawn Dishwashing Detergent

I have always heard all the things that Dawn Dishwashing Detergent can do besides just for washing dishes.  We all know that Dawn has been used for wildlife organizations to help clean oil from birds.  I did research on different websites, asked friends and I compiled a long list of the many uses for Dawn.  Here is the list:

Kills fleas, ticks, lice, ants, bees, and wasps.  My vet was the one that told me about the fleas and it does work.  It also softens your pets fur in the process.  Water and Dawn mix in a spray bottle for the ants, bees, and wasps.

Repels ants, aphids, spider mites, and mealy bugs.  Water and Dawn mix in a spray bottle.  For bigger areas, try adding listerine and cayenne pepper to the mix as an insecticide.

Manicure – soaking fingers in a bowl filled with dawn to remove oils from the finger nails.  Polish will stay on better and longer.

Removing shampoo buildup – apply to hair like regular shampoo to remove excess oil from hair and scalp.  Apply at least once a month.  Also will tone down bad hair coloring.

Laundry pre-treater – apply Dawn directly to the stain and scrub until the stain is removed.

Bubbles – Dawn and water mixed.  You can also add Karo syrup or glycerin to the mix.

First Aid – Pour Dawn into a sealable plastic bag, seal, and freeze.  Reuseable.

Tools – soaking tools after use will remove oil and grime.

Driveway – remove gasoline or motor oil stains

Windows – Dawn and water mix in spray bottle.

Tub & Shower or multipurpose cleaner – heated white vinegar with Dawn in spray bottle.  Spray on tub and walls, let sit for a few minutes and then rinse away.

Washing machine – two drops of Dawn in washer and run hot cycle.  Rinse until bubbles are gone.

Toilets  – pour a cup of Dawn into a clogged toilet, let sit for 15 minutes and then followed with a bucket of hot water.

Poison Ivy – wash the affected area with Dawn will dry up the fluid and keep it from spreading.

Oily Skin – combine Dawn with warm water as a facial cleanser.

Paint & Grease remover – apply Dawn and corn oil together in hands, then rub it all over affected areas.

Kiddie pool – empty water from pool and scrub with Dawn.

Pool – squirt Dawn in the middle of the pool.  All of the dirt, lotion will move to the edges of the pool.

Lubricant – great for sliding glass doors, door knobs, hinges, and many more.

De-Icer – preventing ice on steps and sidewalks.  Mix Dawn liquid, rubbing alcohol, and warm/hot water.  Pour over walkways – they won’t freeze.

Skunk smell – combine hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and dawn liquid.  Wet your pet’s fur and lather the mixture like shampoo.  Leave on for 10-15 minutes and rinse.

Vehicles – use for washing your vehicles.

Drain – boil Dawn in water, then gently pour down clogged drains.

Weeds – mix Dawn, apple cider vinegar, and salt in a spray bottle.  Spray on weeds

Shoes – mix Dawn and Oxi Clean.  Dip washcloth or sponge in the mix and rub on shoes

Silver Polish – use undilited dawn to rub on silver

Instead of buying several cleaning supplies and insect sprays.  Try Dawn dishwashing detergent first.  If it doesn’t work, you know it will work on cleaning your dishes.  If you find that it works, buy a bigger bottle to keep around the house.
